Update on the play

As of this post, we are looking at having only 11 more practices until our week of dress rehearsals begins. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

1. Memorize those lines folks! We are wanting to do our first practices without scripts starting in November.

2. While I can appreciate those of you involved in so many different activities, it is of high importance that we start to make play practice our number 1 priority. With one person not being there, it can completely throw off timing and blocking significantly. So while you may think you know everything you are doing, the people around you are counting on your deliverance of lines and standing where you should be standing.

3. Stage crew has been going extremely well. For those that haven't had an opportunity to show up and help, please look at the remaining schedule and try to attend at least one crew meeting. The set is large this year and we need all hands on deck to help support the building and designing of these set pieces  :)

4. Costumes. Some of you have been picking up costume pieces for approval. Remember, the majority of costuming is your responsibility. There are a few that will be rented, but if you are a munchkin, poppy or tree, you need to dress accordingly. Please remember, no clothing with any type of logo on it.

5. Keep up the awesome work! As we continuously produce quality plays, we are building our audience which will in turn build our program! Pass the word around to you family, friends and enemies about this play. It's gonna be a fun one!

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz Cast List Announced

There were many wonderful auditions from the past week, often for the same parts. Mr. Waibel, Mr. Stanforth and Ms. Smart enjoyed sitting in and listening to your auditions. After all of the auditions were completed, there was much discussion and deliberation regarding who should go in what role. This was by far the most difficult casting we have ever had to do as a team because there were so many great auditions and only a limited number of roles. Please keep in mind that if you did not get the part you auditioned for, that this should not deter you from auditioning in the future.

If you got an understudy role, it would be best if you could show up for all rehearsals for that character in case the actor/actress is sick or unable to attend. Some of you will be double cast for the roles of munchkin, flying monkey, poppy, and fighting tree. If you are not listed as a tree, poppy etc. and would like to help fill out the stage, that would be great, tell us at a rehearsal

Without further adieu, the cast list is as follows:

Dorothy
Sydney Myers
Ruth Holland (Understudy)

Toto
Lindsey Salyer

Boq

Sierra Adams

Cooper Benavides

Next Year

Next year's play will officially be The Wonderful Wizard of Oz!

We decided to go with another well known story to help us continue to draw in an audience. Next year will  be slightly different from a logistical standpoint.

Due to our anticipated overwhelming number of students interested, we are thinking about doing a short One-Act play (that has yet to be determined) to help get more people involved. This is all contingent on the numbers of people that come out for auditions

There will be ample opportunities for folks to help behind the scenes as well as we are planning on officially creating a Publicity Crew, Lighting/Tech Crew, Costume Crew, Stage Crew and Stage Design Crew.

Our last play brought in much more money than we expected and we are currently in the paperwork stages of spending that money on new wireless headset mics! These will not be the end-all-be-all of our sound production however. We still have two great sets of mics that pick many of you up.

We hope that everyone is still as excited about this past year's production and hope that this excitement carries over into next year.

Be on the lookout at the beginning of the year for information surrounding the audition process. The Facebook and Blog will still be our major source of communication as well as schedule changes.

Thanks again to everybody for their hard work and continued enthusiasm!! Have a great remainder of the year

End Scene

Great job folks!!!! We pulled a lot of money from the past three nights!!! Very impressive numbers! not sure on exactly how much we actually "made" on this year's show, but a big thanks goes out to MS Student Council for donating ALL of our candy for the event!! Great to have organizations willing to help out when they can:)

A few notes:
Monday is a clean up day. If you can make it, please do.

While SEVERAL of you stuck around to help clean up, there were a few of you that did not. Things like this do not go unnoticed and play a big role in future casting sessions....Just sayin'....Big thanks to those that did do as they were asked

Recordings were made. My goal is to make a DVD of all three nights performances (as long as they are OK). Provided everything works out well, I will have these DVD's available to "purchase" by donation. Them minimum amount would be $1 to offset the cost of the disc, all other money would go directly to the Drama Department.

If you have any pics, please put them onto a CD for me so I can create discs of pictures for everyone to have. Memories like this are great to have from many perspectives. Just get them to me on a CD format please:)

Stay tuned to the sites for upcoming announcements about next year's events. As we know, we are going to attempt a musical in March (You're a Good Man Charlie Brown). The play portion of drama may be slightly, (read SLIGHTY) different from the past two years. Keep your ears open and your eyes.....uhhh....open for details.

Again, great job!!!!!!!

Twitter and more

For next year, I am toying with the idea of using Twitter as a means of mass communication for the Drama Program. With Twitter, you would need to subscribe to Triad_Drama and link your phone to receive updates via text. This will allow us to communicate with you whenever we need to make a change to rehearsal due to weather, announce reminders for upcoming Drama events, or just get out various information. Let me know your thoughts about this. Obviously, only members of the play/musical would need to sign-up next year. I think this would be the best way to get any messages out without you needing to utilize the website/Facebook all the time. Thoughts?

And then there was 1...........At this time next weekend, we will be rolling along in the first performance!!! Great work so far! Keep looking at those lines though! I know we are all tired but the hard work we are going to need next week willhelp make everything so worth it! Great jobs to everybody! A big thank you to our new crew members and Stage Manager for making the movement of set around on stage seem seamless! Chad and Andrew for doing Lights and Sound control! All of the cast for taking on their characters and really making it their own! We are almost there!!!

A Letter from Our Superintendent

Mr. Stanforth and myself thought it would be appropriate to share this letter from the superintendent with all of you.

"Paul and Orrin,

I am so thrilled that you guys are working with the students that enjoy drama. It is a great opportunity for many of them and is a big part of making our district become a "District of Excellence with Distinction."

My wife and I look forward to the production.

Mr. Meredith"

T-shirts will be made on Tuesday, during/after dress rehearsal. Please remember to bring $5 for your shirt. Mrs. Cardoza from the MS will be helping out with this process much like last year. $5 covers the cost of the shirt, we purchased them all today :)

Please remember, if the schedule says practice goes til 4:30, practice goes til 4:30 (with the exception of people requesting to extend today). Unless you make prior arrangements, you are expected to be at practices during the times posted. Even though you may not have lines to do, blocking is still a very important element of what we do. Please be certain that you are at practices for the times listed on the calendar.

Very Important Upcoming Information!

Please read carefully as this affects everybody!

Due to unavoidable circumstances, Monday's First Dress Rehearsal is moved to Tuesday at the same time. Please make note of this change and make arrangements. Rehearsals next week are required so please make sure you are able to be there.

Tomorrow and Friday, we will need everybody during the first part of practice to get into their costumes. This will allow S and W to determine what all still needs to be acquired for the costumes. WE WILL NOT BE IN MAKE-UP ON THESE DAYS, ONLY COSTUMES!

Crew Work

Folks,
A big thank you to everybody that showed up to help today (2.27) for stage crew work! We achieved so much!! Things are getting crossed off of the list and other things have been started! On a side note, Mr. Stanforth and myself had to clean up after several of your messes. While we appreciate you showing up in such awful weather conditions, you still need to be responsible for cleaning up after yourself.

Things are going to be much grander than last year so continue all of the hard work!!!

Stage Crew for Saturday 2/27

UPDATE! Maintenance is plowing the driveway as I type this! Crew work is still on and easier to get to than previously mentioned.

This is Waibel.

The drive was not as bad as my drive home yesterday after crew work. As long as you are careful, driving shouldn't be much of an issue...on the roads. However, the entrance to the school is pretty bad. I ended up getting stuck in the main drive (but am out now). The drifts were shoveled by Stanforth and myself and two cars have come and gone without issue since my getting stuck.

Therefore, we are here, working on things for stage crew. If you so choose to come out and join us, please be aware that the entrance is quite difficult to drive through. It would be best to get dropped off by the road and walk in rather than try to drive in. Come to the side door by the cafeteria and we will get you in.

Hopefully some of you are able to make it to help out.

THIS IS NOT A REQUIRED MEETING!! THIS IS OPTIONAL!

Important note about Stage Crew meeting!!!!! 2/27 8:15am

I (Waibel) am leaving my house at 9am for the school. Please check the blog as I will post my assessment of the roads from my drive in. You can then use my assessment to determine if you want to come in to help with set. We still need to paint the door and tea party tables, build and paper-machete our mushroom and rocks, continue gluing leaves to trees, adjust lights, cut-out and paint Cheshire Cat tree, and anything else I am forgetting we need to do.  There will be something for everyone, but look around 10am for my posting on the blog

Update

Today, Stanforth, myself and a few brave souls journeyed to the high school to do some set work. Trees are starting to look like summer time, tea party tables are almost complete. Still need to start on mushroom and rocks (hopefully tomorrow)

Stay tuned to any info regarding tomorrow's stage crew meeting. As of right now, I am planning on venturing out around 9:00am to see how the roads are. I will post on the blog only (no Facebook access at school), the status of the meeting. Most likely, it will still happen, however, it will be highly optional based on the roads.

No more snow!!!

After talking over the current status of the progress we have been making, Stanforth and Waibel have decided to cancel today's practice due to snow. We could make practice optional but it wouldn't guarantee everyone making it out there for it, potentially wasting people's time.

Waibel and Stanforth will be at the high school working with the lights and some set pieces. (We will be there until at least 2pm, we may be there after that but no guarantees) If you would like to come out and help with some crew work, you are more than welcome to join us. If the doors are not open, knock on the auditeria door for us to get you in. Anyone is welcome to help. We have more crew work to do at this point than we have a need for practice. Keep memorizing Act 2 though!

Crew Work

Great crew meeting today! (Well we could have used more people)

Big thanks to Chad Reisinger and Amanda Reed for coming out on their Saturday to help with building set pieces.

We still have a lot of work to do, so try to make it out if you can the next couple of meetings! We need some creative minds to help with some set pieces.

As far as memorizing lines, I stumbled across this quote to share with you;) Enjoy!

"Alice had learnt several things of this sort in her lessons in the
schoolroom, and though this was not a VERY good opportunity for showing
off her knowledge, as there was no one to listen to her, still it was
good practice to say it over." - Alice in Wonderland

Keep memorizing those lines folks ;)

Another Day Another Change :-/

UGH!

Here we go again folks!
Hopefully, we can get some practice time in this week! Looks like tomorrow will be canceled due to snow. Mr. Stanforth and Mr. Waibel went out to school today to drop off a TON of props and materials for the play, and really had a hard time driving the roads and even the parking lots were awful. While I hope we have school on Tuesday, it doesn't look good. If that is the case, check back here to check the changes in rehearsals. We need to get Act 2 Scene 5 in at some point, and it will be our first practice back.

I added a LINKS TO FUN STUFF link up top. Click, enjoy. Or just click

Again, please please PLEASE have your parts memorized for the upcoming practices! We need to get into the habit of doing the blocking without the scripts. Be prepared to work extra hard in the coming weeks!!

Enjoy what time you have off, but work on memorizing! See you all soon (hopefully)

Important info...PLEASE READ

After losing this entire week of practice and set design (and even purchasing stuff for set design), Mr. Stanforth and Mr. Waibel have sat down and hashed out a revised schedule for upcoming practices. We had to beef up significantly due to losing the first week of practice as well as this current week. Please make note of the rehearsal changes on the calendat below!

If you know someone that can sew and would be willing to help out with costume design, please have them e-mail Mr. Waibel waibelp@triad.k12.oh.us ASAP so he can get some ideas out to them. We are currently waiting to hear back from Urbana HS, as they are letting us use some of their costumes from their previous production of this very same play. We will not know what we will need costume-wise until we get to see what they have for us to borrow.

This coming week will be the final week we use scripts on the stage. If you haven't already, get busy memorizing your lines! If on stage, you forget a line, just yell out "LINE!" and someone will read you what you need to say. We need to start getting into the habit of scriptless action on stage.

Anyone interested in helping with set design can show up as scheduled next week. If we are able to get materials and supplies prior to Monday, we will use Monday as our first crew day. Please check back here or Facebook often.

Continue to pass out the Business Advertisement Forms! The company can either send the check to Waibel or wait to be billed from Waibel. We currently have 2 full page ads confirmed! We are off to a slow start, so keep pushing the business advertisements!

Also, continue to mention that family and friends can sponsor a special message to the cast or inidividuals by using this form

Pass the word around to your friends (especially those involved with basketball) to check the new schedule. The play performs it's first show 4 weeks from tomorrow (Friday).

Hopefully, we will see everybody this Friday at school! Remember that this coming Monday (President's Day) is no longer a day off due to exceeding our 5 calamity days.

Boooooo......snooooooooow!!!

OK, as always, if there is no school due to weather, there is no practice.

The Waibel and The Stanforth are looking at the schedule and trying to determine the best way of making up the lost rehearsals for this week while not giving up any more rehearsal time. We are contemplating adding a Saturday rehearsal in the coming weeks to make up for it. Stay tuned

Also, if you mentioned that you knew someone that could sew, please have them contact me ASAP

A few things

Folks,

Practices are starting to go really REALLY well! With basketball season ending, we should start seeing everybody present for rehearsals. Please make note of when rehearsals are for you. We broke them down by time so that people did not have to stay if they weren't in the first two scenes. Please be aware that being to practice on time is essential to being productive and successful!

Hopefully, starting this coming week, supplies will start to be purchased for the creation of some of our set pieces. Stay tuned for details!

We will also be needing help with costume makers! If you know of someone that can help with making costumes for the play, please have them e-mail me at waibelp@triad.k12.oh.us.

Continue to sell ad space for the program! Word on the street is our prices are rather low, so if we sell with a good pitch we should be able to have lots and lots of ads in our program (and more money for our future productions!) Remember to tell them the benefits of placing and ad, how many people will see it, as well as the group it helps out (Triad Drama).

On Facebook, look up Triad Drama Department and join up for another way to keep track of events and what's going on. You can upload pics from rehearsals and have fun with each other (I'm sure you all know how to use Facebook)

Have a great weekend and avoid the snow as much as possible! (Unless you're sledding or making snowmen/angels....then, HAVE FUN)

Cast change

I just realized that I never announced a couple of changes in our casting.

Cooper Benavides has taken over the role of Tweedledee and Knave of Hearts.
Katie Chilton has taken the role of Fish Footman, as well as keeping the role of Rose.
Katlyn Salyers has taken the role of Card Soldier One, as well as keeping the role of Cheshire Cat.

A big thank you to these young actors for helping out in a pinch:)

Practices

Practices have been going extremely well for the first few weeks of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland!

Some characters are starting to come together very well. Keep checking back here often for any news and hopefully some pictures to be posted soon.

Also, Triad Drama Department now has a facebook page. Check it out and join up!

Calendar

Several cast members have expressed concerns with being able to see the calendar. I have tested accessing this calendar on several machines and have had no problems.

We will be passing out a calendar for the current month, but will need for you to figure out how to access the calendar. The setting has been changed so that a Google account is not needed to access the information, it should show up at the bottom of the website no matter if you are signed in to Google or not. If you continue having an issue with this, you may be missing a "plug-in" on your machine. Plug-ins allow computers to run specific languages to show information. After searching online for a specific plug-in required to view Google calendar, I did not find anything. Please continue to check back for any information changes.

Don't forget you can email me with any questions. E-mail instead of asking me at school...It will be easier:)

Trouble with Calendar, Scripts and Snow Days

If you are seeing this where the calendar should be

Be sure to click on "Create an account"
You will be directed to google account and you will need to fill out the information that is required. You will not be asked to provide any payment information as this service is 100% completely free. Again, you will not have to pay anything to view the calendar, you just need a log-in. It's similar to the Kroger Plus card that you have to scan to gain access to all of the "sale" prices.

Any questions, e-mail Mr. Waibel at waibelp@triad.k12.oh.us

SCRIPTS
If you did not receive a script from the first read through, please continue to be patient. They are on order and will be distributed ASAP

SNOW DAYS
In the event of a Snow Day during a day of scheduled practice, the practice will be canceled.
If needed, the canceled practice will be rescheduled. We are currently looking at options for the make-up of the first practice. Stay tuned.
